The origins of the factory outlets in Troyes
The city of Troyes is known to be home to the largest concentration of factory outlets in Europe. The reasons for this are quite simply historical: already in the Middle Ages, the city was ideally placed to host the famous Champagne fairs, whose fame spread throughout medieval Europe. The textile, dyeing and tanning industries then developed there, until Troyes became the national hosiery capital in the 18th century. The Troyes region, with its unrivalled dynamism in the textile industry, saw the birth of prestigious French brands, including Petit Bateau, Lacoste and Absorba. The concept of a trade and factory outlet was born in the 20th century, in the 1960s: initially reserved for factory staff and their families, they were opened to the general public in the 1970s. Forerunner in this field, Troyes is today the undeniable capital of the factory outlet, and attracts by this form of tourism more than 3 million visitors every year.
Factory outlets of the biggest brands
Four major outlet centres are now present in Troyes: the Marques Avenue centre, the Marques City centre, the Village de Marques and the Mc Arthur Glen centre. Each of these centres groups together around one hundred factory outlets. The most famous ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories brands are present, with for example Levis jeans, Redskins shoes and Delsey luggage in the Lavau village of brands; the men's and women's collections of Adidas and Oxbow and the maxi childcare brand Cosi at Marques City in Pont-Sainte-Marie; the Armani, Lacoste, Nike and Petit Bateau boutiques at the McArthurGlen centre; and the Caroll, IKKS, Darjeeling, Clarks and Le Coq Sportif brands at Marques Avenue. In addition to these discount stores, each centre also features a variety of food and beverage brands. Here too, famous or prestigious names are present: from Caffet pastries to Rosaparks burgers and Starbucks cafés, there is a wide choice for both gourmets and gourmands.
Shopping and bargains at Troyes factory outlets
Factory outlets save between 30 and 70% on major brand name clothing and accessories. Outlet shopping centre shops in Troyes offer downgraded items sold at a much lower price than the selling prices charged in past seasons. Discounts can take the form of round prices with items starting from 6 euros at Quiksilver, end-of-series items starting from 12 euros at New balance and permanent discounts of 50 % on all Kickers shoes. Factory outlets are the opportunity to buy a Desley suitcase at 49 euros instead of 119 euros, or to dress your child at Sergent Major with a minimum of 30 % discount outside sales periods. Cosmetics shops and restaurants do not charge factory outlet rates. On the other hand, they take part in promotional operations during the legal sales periods: the opportunity to treat yourself to a day or a weekend of shopping in Champagne.
